Bogota geographic data: the Colombian Capital is located at 4° 35’56” North Latitude and 74°04’51” Greenwich West Longitude, in the middle of an intertropical convergence zone. Due to this, there are two rainy seasons: the first in March-April-May and the second in September-October-November.
The city lies on the north-western extension of the Andean Mountains, over a savanna with a great assortment of climates, types of soils, water bodies and other geographic landmarks.
As the city is surrounded by mountains, these become a natural barrier restricting the humidity flow affecting the rain pattern.
The temperature varies depending on the month: in December, January and March the average is high (18 ºC); from April to October is lower (average 7 ºC).
The city avenues (carreras) are oriented from south to north and the city streets (calles) from east to west.
The city if located 2,600 meters above sea level.
